WOW, this is fascinating! I work at and co-own a rare U.S.-based worker-owned cooperative (PixelSpoke: https://www.pixelspoke.coop/) and have just started to explore cooperative housing as a viable solution to our affordable housing problem. PixelSpoke recently donated to the nonprofit Homesight in Seattle, Wa. and its Othello Square project, which is both cooperative housing and wraparound services (i.e. financial services, childcare, business incubation, etc.) and includes shared community space: https://www.homesightwa.org/othello-square/
We need to be talking more about the cooperative model and it needs to be taught in all business classes/MBA programs. Thanks for raising awareness and offering this comprehensive historical context!
