When my Black husband was a paramedic, one thing he appreciated about the job was that the urgency of the situation precluded anyone from "refusing service" from him because of the color of his skin. Sadly, the skepticism your husband seems to be all too familiar with has plagued my husband in other jobs -- skepticism from both his coworkers and from those he serves. And what's equally sad, other white people are more likely to trust our claims of racism than they would if our husbands made the same claims.
