The story you are telling is an interesting one. When men take on paid jobs, they are doing it to provide for their families, but when women take on paid jobs, it's out of self-interest? Essentially, if women demand the autonomy to choose how they use their brains and leverage their strengths, instead of being shoehorned into a life of homemaking, they are being selfish? It's difficult for me to follow your logic here.

The village was destroyed by capitalism, yes. The working world neither serves women nor most men. Men have been giving more and getting less, but please blame our increasingly extractive economy and the CEOs who make 350 times more than their workers.

Also, picking up the slack at home isn't altruism. It's called partnership. It's called taking responsibility for the unpaid labor that family life requires.
