I do agree with you, but I'm not so much reacting to my friend's political "opinions" (i.e. regurgitated dogma) as I am to the way that the religious right is actively encouraging its constituents to reject friends/family that don't buy into its dogma. The fact is, my friend's family and my family have shared so many similar challenges and concerns and focusing on our differences/screaming at one another over social media is simply not doing any of us any good. I have certainly cut toxic people out of my life but I would so much rather at least try to talk first before universally dismissing them. If, for instance, I could remind my friend face-to-face about the brutality my husband has suffered at the hands of police, I'm quite sure she would reconsider posting "All Lives Matter" on social media.
