Thanks Brian! First, I'll say that businesses alone can't solve our childcare crisis. We absolutely need government intervention there. On its own, childcare simply isn't a profitable industry, BUT it enables other industries to be profitable and can have a hugely positive effect on our GDP.

There are concrete steps companies can take though, and that starts with examining the hours they demand of their employees and their parental leave policies. I wrote another story a while back called "What If We Designed Workplaces for Single Mothers of Color?' that applies inclusive UX design principles to the workplace. Simply put, design your workplace around the needs of your most stressed employees (most of whom are likely caregivers) and everyone will benefit.
