It's an interesting question about law enforcement -- I think that has sometimes been case, though he has had other negative encounters without white women present. And yes, my stepson's mother is also white (they never married) and while I think the experience of being in an interracial relationship did open her eyes somewhat, when the relationship went south (largely because of her family), she played into the racism of those who surrounded her to gain their sympathy. For the record, it's often assumed that my husband has a "thing" for white women because he happened to date two in a row. He grew up in Salt Lake City, and is used to navigating a very white world, but has had friends and partners of nearly all races!
