I'm right there with you. My daughter is also mixed-race and as a 10yo who looks far older, she will no longer get the "cute kid" pass. She has yet to have an experience like this (I know it's just a matter of time), but is already talking about feeling left out by the white kids in her class while also not feeling fully accepted by the Black kids. I know this is just the beginning of her "racial awakening" and parts of it will be pretty painful for all of us. Thanks so much for sharing your story.
