I'm going to share this with my partner, as I know he'll be able to relate to every word. He is so often the only Black person in the room, and not only is there no acknowledgement of this fact, but he's simply expected to conform to "white behaviors" and white institutional norms, no questions asked. I was recently sitting on a porch with much of his extended family and realized how few white people have the experience of being the only white person in the room (or on the porch). But when this is a daily experience for a Black person, we act like it should be no big deal. Thanks for sharing your insights and perspective!
