I'm going to do my best to not get too defensive here, but I might fail. If you've read any other stories I've written here, I think it would be clear that appeasing men is absolutely not my goal. I've devoted many, many words to the power inequities between men and women. It's true that men who suck have the potential to make life more miserable for more people because they are more likely to be in positions of influence. I actually made this point in an earlier draft of the story but felt it convoluted the main point I was trying to make here. The point being that the ways we're socialized make us less likely to see eye to eye and that we're all susceptible to sucky behaviors when we feel forced into roles that don't entirely fit us. I know SO many men who want to be more emotionally vulnerable but either don't know how or don't feel they can be, which leads to women complaining that men suck. We don't want to sweep power inequities under the rug. We also need to frame the conversation in ways that help us understand that the current social dynamics do all of us more harm than good.
