I'm feeling this so much these days. My little girl is growing into a male-gaze-attracting pre-teen at the tender age of 10. Even women comment constantly on her beauty, which is admittedly much less creepy than the man at the coffee shop, but it still sends the message to her that her beauty is her most worthy asset. I focus on her strength, intelligence, and creativity as much as possible, but I feel helpless when it comes to controlling the messaging she's getting from society at large.
