I'm absolutely not promoting this as a magic "one size fits all" solution. I have many friends (all women) who have found far more equity in their relationships with their co-parents after divorce. But so much depends on your relationship with your co-parent and his/her new person, if applicable. My stepson spent summers and (most) other school breaks with us -- there were benefits to this arrangement (fewer transitions between parents, extended periods of quality time, lots of down time in-between visits), but also things that were really hard. Every arrangement has its trade-offs, for sure!
