I totally agree. In my personal life, I'm just trying to start on my own block. I have a group of neighborhood women over every Wed, and we're talking about also starting a monthly neighborhood game night and some kind of regular music-making event. I struggle with the dark side of community as well, having dabbled in church and really appreciating the community aspect but not being able to handle the dogma. In my work life, as a co-owner of a worker-owned cooperative, I truly see this business model as "the answer" to almost everything that plagues our capitalist system. Unfortunately, only 0.04% of Americans work at a worker-owned cooperative so when it comes to broader adoption, there's a steep hill to climb.
