I think about this so much, having two brown children and a brown stepson. My 22yo stepson believes his father exaggerates racism and is too eager to assume the victim role. I definitely do NOT agree, but it's true that while my stepson has not been immune to racism, he has experienced it differently as a brown person. He has also struggled with the classic biracial experience of straddling two worlds but not finding firm footholds in either. It will be interesting to see how my 10 and 6yo kids grow into themselves. Thank you for your thoughtful and nuanced perspective!
