I hope you didn't take anything I said to mean that I consider myself an "expert" in the experiences of people of color. It would be ludicrous to claim such expertise. But I will point out that issues like economic survival and violence, which profoundly affect my partner on a daily basis, are deeply rooted in our country's racist history. We can't really solve them without coming to terms with issues like housing discrimination, police brutality, and mass incarceration, all of which disproportionately affect people of color. Decrying "white patriarchy" isn't a means of vilifying white people or men, but rather vilifying a system in which white men have disproportionate access to money and power.
