I have similar thoughts sometimes, but personally, I would have made a terrible homemaker, and I would have been so unhappy confined to the home. I appreciate the opportunity to have my own identity and purpose out in the world. The worst setback for the feminist movement was when Nixon unexpectedly vetoed a universal childcare bill that had bipartisan support and was expected to become law. I can't even imagine how different the last decade of my life would have been had I had access to free or subsidized childcare within walking distance of my home! In the 40+ years since, there has never been the political will to put that bill back on the table.
