I grew up in San Francisco and almost all my friends in high school were Asian American. Then in college, I was jokingly granted honorary membership to the Filipino club. I also lived in Washington DC and now in Portland, Oregon and I really miss having Asian American people in my life. I don't know if that's a weird thing to say, but racial diversity is so enriching and I'm sad that my (mixed-race) children are experiencing so much less of it than I did at their age. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
