Great points! I've never been able to watch the local news for the same reason. It makes me feel like I'm living in a cesspool of crime and tragedy. I've never understood how it benefits me to know about freak accidents and crimes in my hometown. If anything, it only depresses me, makes me lose trust in my neighbors, and skews my perception of risk.
