Every time I read about other countries’ maternity leave policies, I get very depressed. As a U.S. resident, I had 10 weeks of unpaid leave for my first child and 14 weeks for my second. Transitioning back to work while dealing with financial strain was one of the most stressful times of my life. I volunteer for the organization that helped pass Oregon’s paid leave law, an important step, but so much work remains to be done!
