Don't even get me started on BMI. A doctor told me that my biracial daughter has a high BMI and that I should keep an eye on that. I wanted to scream, "Just look at her!" She is a lean, mean 5 feet 5 inches of dense bones and solid muscle.

Diet culture is awful. The foods our country tries to feed us are also awful. I'm constantly toeing the line between fighting our cultural defaults when it comes to food (a constant onslaught of sugar and highly processed ingredients) and not obsessing too much over what I eat. Collard greens cooked in ham hocks are not only delicious but FAR healthier than some fat-free protein bar concoction laden with artificial sweeteners that is marketed as "healthy."

Anyway, I could go on, but thank you for sharing your own story so authentically and I'm glad you're finding more peace with your body!
