A beautifully told, if heart-wrenching, story. I felt this so acutely just before COVID hit, when a leaky faucet almost ended my marriage (which I wrote about in a Medium story called "I Don't Really Want Life to Go Back to Normal.") The irony of COVID was that it let us slow down a bit. Before, we simply didn't have time to have the crucial conversations we needed to have, or to do the delegation/take the initiative for basic upkeep of our home. Despite all the challenges of the last few years, the silver lining has been simply having more time to work on both our house and our marriage.
